The magic of the alpine world, the close connection to nature and the traditional hospitality of the locals make Grossarl a magnet for nature lovers, alpine athletes and tourists alike.
The town of Grossarl, about 70 km south of the city of Salzburg, is the main town in the "valley of mountain alms" and is home to many beautiful hiking paths. Located at 920 meters above sea level, this town is perfect for winter sports and alpine summers. Perfect snow conditions, diverse hiking trails and exciting excursion destinations guarantee its visitors a memorable stay.
Grossarl has a long history, beginning in 930 BC when the first valley dwellers set up camp in the area. The farmers and settlers lived through both good and bad times due to the hard alpine winters. Much has happen in the "valley of mountain alms" since then, but the historic roots were never forgotton - and one still feels this today.
8 kilometers away, located slightly above Grossarl, there is a small farming community called Huettschlag. The town is at 1,020 meters above sea level and has shared a portion of the Hohe Tauern National Park since 1991. It is a great starting point for exploring the park with its unique natural wonders and stunning mountain backdrops.
