The local Kapellenweg trail is one of the most popular walking routes in the Grossarltal, tracing a path between the chapels and churches in the valley. The path is not only restorative for the mind and soul, it is also filled with plenty of diverse natural features. Wishes hung at each chapel that can be visited are intended to accompany the walker on their way through life. The wishes are based on the ten commandments from the Old Testament.
The Kapellenweg was inaugurated in 2009. It begins at the bottom of the valley, by the parish church in Grossarl, and leads south to Hüttschlag. Along the 17.5km path you’ll find many of the little sights worth seeing in the Grossarltal valley. A pilgrimage route that really has it all, and will give you the chance to reflect.
If we’ve awakened your curiosity, you can look forward to a very special walking experience during your next visit. The route itself is not a short walk, but fits into an average walking day with about four and a half hours on the move, and can easily be accomplished in a day by a seasoned walker. If you want to walk at a gentler pace and stop along the way, there are many options for taking a break and having a refreshing drink along the route.
