This protected area, extending over more than 1,800 square kilometres, covers parts of the Austrian provinces of Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia. Skiing in Hohe Tauern National Park

The highest Alpine ridge in Austria enchants summer visitors with its roaring waterfalls, untouched Alpine meadows in bloom, and of course its giants: the Grossvenediger and the Grossglockner – the highest of all of the 3,000-metre-plus peaks in the national park.

10% of the national park is still covered by glacier ice today. Dreaming of walking in snowshoes through the Alpine snow, or discovering the region on cross-country skis? You’ve found the perfect place.

Excursions in the National Park

In contrast to other national parks, people have been living in the valleys of the Hohe Tauern for more than 5,000 years. And that’s still the case today. They farm the Alpine pastures, run businesses and protect the area’s extraordinary biodiversity.

Maintaining the region’s ecological balance is the highest priority for everyone who lives here. The care taken means that visitors are able to stay in the heart of the national park and enjoy an authentic experience of nature. And Grossarl is the ideal base for your next adventure in the Hohe Tauern National Park. We’re looking forward to welcoming you and will be happy to answer any questions you have.
